Intercontinental Net.
Section under development.
To move to a net archive page, use the list boxes in the upper-right corner. Select year, net and click on the "Go" button.
NB: Pre-2012 net data are not processed. The Region 3 Net started on February 5, 2017 and ended in 2020.
The following graph and tables provide an overview of the variations in the level of activity for this net and give a general idea of the HF conditions met during the sessions.
-
QNI Graph.
In each month column of this bar graph, the number of participants, Net Control Station (NCS) and participating stations (QNI's), is shown:
- Per week: first week at bottom of column up to fourth/fifth week of the month;
- Per month: red on white background on top of column.
The bottom row in the table shows:
- Total number of sessions;
- Total number of participants;
- Average number of participants per session.
Click on a month name at the top of the graph to jump to the "QNI table" listing all participants per session.
-
QNI Table.
This table lists all net participants per month, week and session. NCS's are marked with "*". "Visitors" are not listed unless they took part in a session. Click on a day date in red to jump to the corresponding report table(s) if available.
-
Report Tables.
These tables compile reception reports received from net participants or listeners (SWL's). NCS's are marked with "*". Each row of a table recapitulates the reports given to the participants by the station listed in the "De" column. Call signs in italics on a different background color in "De" columns indicate reception reports. Reports expressed in decibels, +10dB for instance, must be understood as values over S9.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 1500 UTC 14055.150 kHz. (QRM on 14055). Ionospheric conditions to AZ were very good this morning, but with that came a lot of QRM. I believe at least one other SSN was calling, but I missed the call because of QRM. Apologies. Thanks everyone for the first Intercontinental SSN of the year, and I hope conditions stay good.
- De F5LAW: Super path to AZ but strange conditions, signals from S-IL weaker than usual and no short skip at all. First Intercontinental net of 2020, HNY to you and yours friends.
- De K9TJL: Yes strange cndx. End of net the bottom dropped out. FDZ. During net heard Eur. stations calling on 055. Assumed they were attempting comms with AA7FV.
- De DL2KHU: Darrel, the station that was calling you when you pass the key to K9TJL was IK7XJA.

- De KA5TJS: I was their but no one heard me.
- De G4CPA: I could only hr Darrel AA7FV. I called like crazy ,,,,nil response. No others hrd, I checked all SSN QRGs. The contest didn't help.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 20m: 14055.1 kHz. (14054.9 was busy.) Things were very busy, with some stations doubling and other QRM. Apologies to any stations that may have been calling the net that I didn't copy. Ionospheric conditions were very good today, but that made QRM all the stronger.
15/17m: 1600 UTC listened on 21055 kHz, but nothing heard. 1605 UTC 18088 kHz, nothing heard. Tried a CQ SSN, but nil. I could only hear one station anywhere on the band, who turned out to be in Arizona.

- De DL2KHU: At the beginning i copied Darrel AA7FV with 559 in the peak and tried to check in. Then the signals became vy week, mostly 229... I heard vy week signals from other stations but could not copy a callsign.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 14055.2 kHz (Weak QRM on 14055). 95 watts at first, QRO to kW halfway through net.
- De F5LAW: NCS was S5 on peaks at first, S8 on peaks later with QRO. Noise level was S3 at 300 Hz. 15/17m bands both dead here.
- De G4CPA: Condx vy poor hr in North Yorkshire, Sri couldn't hear N4OW, K9TJL and F5LAW, I only managed to work Darrel AA7FV at 15.15 UTC. Nothing hrd on other SSN QRG's.
- De N4OW: Extremely poor conditions at my QTH for this session. (I checked to see if my antenna had fallen down). AA7FV (Low Power) 229 in my noise - QRO 559.
- De N1EA: N4OW was blasting in here. Also TJ very strong, AA7FV very strong, F5LAW was 449. One person (now I know it must have been N4OW) said conditions were poor but I've not seen them this good for quite a while. Receiver ITT/Mackay 3030 with indoor loop. Usually hears nothing, like it heard nothing on 18088 kHz at 1600Z today.
- De KA5TJS: I was there but did not hear a thing on 14.055! Conditions really bad here. I think I did hear Al one time about 119 but don't know if he heard me or not.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 14054.6 kHz (14055 kHz busy). 95 watts, then later QRO to kW. I believe at least one other station was calling the net, but too weak for me to copy. My apologies. Very long skip conditions this morning. Signals from Europe were very good, but US stations were very hard to copy in AZ. Thanks, Yann for the QSPs and for picking up the stations I missed.
- De F5LAW: NCS was S7 at first, S9 later with QRO. Very annoying QRM from a station tuning up on QRG. I think I heard another station calling, not sure if for SSN, I didn't get the call sign. 15m: NIL. 17m: NIL. Pile up on QRG with good signals from North America.
- De N4OW: AA7FV 229 QRO 569.
- De KA5TJS: Very poor conditions here on Sunday, could hear Yann better than Darrel at most times.
- De G4CPA: I Only mngd to hr/wk Darrel AA7FV. No other SSN stns hrd I checked the other QRG's but nothing hrd.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 95 watts at first, QRO to kW near end of net. I think conditions were relatively poor today, although we've had worse. Most stations were copied well into Arizona, but were not being heard well with most of the net. 1600 - 1610 UTC, I did listen on 15m and 17m, just in case anybody came up. No SSN stations heard.
- De K9TJL: No stations heard 15/17 Meters 02092020.
- De F5LAW: Band noisy, very strong wind with storm Ciara. NCS was S5 on peaks at first, good S8 later with QRO. 15m: NIL. 17m: NIL. Pileup on QRG again... Med being unavailable, I tried a few CQ SSN, nothing heard.
- De G4CPA: Well condx atrocious here, in middle of storm from hell "Ciaran" 80mph gusts, trees down and villages around here flooded out, lots of QRN QRM & QSB. The first stn I hrd was F5LAW Yann, then vanished, then heard Darrel, also disappeared and lots of QRM.

Switching between the dipole and the rhombic while listening to Med, although there was deep QSB on both antennas, on average the dipole was about one S-unit stronger than the rhombic. The rhombic is pointing to EU, about 20 degrees away from CN8 from AZ, so whatever rhombic sidelobe there is towards CN8 must be about 1 S-unit down on a dipole. That's not surprising. This is just a temporary antenna at the moment - if the wind blows, it will fall down. I'll try to make it more permanent.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 95 watts at first, then QRO to kW because of poor condx. Conditions were much better than last week, but still very poor. Last week I blamed geomagnetic activity. I don't know what to blame this week. I've a suspicion that I could detect two weak stations in the noise this morning, on the same frequency. In my notes I copied a character "G" (which might have been part of G4CPA at a peak of QSB above the noise) and I also copied down a "KB" which might well have been "KH" from part of DL2KHU. Another 1 or 2 dB improvement in signal strength could have made all the difference! Sorry I couldn't do better this morning.

- De AA7FV: 1450 - 1500 UTC: W1SFR. Truly awful conditions, some of the worst we've had for the net. I've not received any 20m WSPR reports from Europe since September 25th. This is extremely unusual. Solar flux was up to 73 today, but yesterday's Ap index was up to 23, the highest it's been for many months. The Kp index has reached storm levels for the last 4 or more days. It has to get better than this! Thanks TJ for the QSPs.

20 m: 1500 - 1532 UTC, 14349 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: 14349 kHz. (Another QSO in progress on 14055).
Here's a picture of part of the operating desk at AA7FV this morning. There are 4 sideswipers, all hooked up and ready to be used. Left to right, there is the "Fat Boy" tbcp from Steve W1SFR, the Twanger made by G3HGE, in the background the GHD GF501A, and on the right a Begali HST 2. During this morning's Intercontinental net, I used 3 of them, swapping between keys on a whim. The one not used this morning was the GHD - in fact I rarely use that at all these days. The other 3 all get heavily used.
- De K9TJL: F5LAW WEB SIG. BIG Sig. Recording of 20m session. MERRY CHRISTMAS...
- De G4CPA: Well shortest day today. Winter Solstice. Merry Christmas to all SSNers. Tnx Darrel great NCS job, CUAGN next session.
- De N1EA: Lovely recording of my dear friends, even though I'm without a transmitter, I listen with my inside antenna and ITT/Mackay Marine 3031A ship's receiver on a small amplified antenna. But nothing as strong as these recordings! Maybe soon again like last year I'll be able to operate from my friend's radio station.

- De CN8YR: K9TJL TJ Nil Direct and RX with QSB on websdr.
- De AA7FV: I was using diversity reception on Med. He was on average much stronger on the dipole than the rhombic, but with QSB. The fading on the dipole was usually out of phase with fading on the rhombic, so when Med faded into the noise on the dipole, I could still copy on the rhombic. Yann, sorry I didn't hear your call on 17m.
- De K9TJL: CN8YR Direct and Web Sdr. Med Good 439 at my QTH Via Xcvr.
- De F5LAW: No path at all to NCS. Called AA7FV once but was unheard. MX and HNY friends.

20 m: 1500 - 1541 UTC, 14055 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: There may have been another station calling in - G4CPA? - but I couldn't copy the call. RST 119. Thanks everyone for another great net, and for a year of great nets in spite of spotty conditions. Hopefully 2021 will have conditions at least as good, if not better. Have an excellent New Year, and I'm looking forward to2021.
- De K9TJL: Long calls from G1YAN (web) may be trying QNI.
- De F5LAW: Excellent signal from NCS with TERRIFIC ECHO! I had to attenuate the signal to improve readability. Think strongest echo I've ever heard on a signal... Storm Bella over western EU, wind gusting up to 141 kph on the F Channel coast. Rather good conditions for the last Intercon net of the year. We'll do even better in 2021... Thanks to all NCSs and QNIs, keep up the good work fellows. A Happy and Healthy Year 2021 to you and yours friends, take care and stay safe.
- De G4CPA: I could, hear Darrel S9 with strong echo making difficult reading. Nothing else to report, I was continuously calling. But no luck this time. Snowing hr at the moment, after very bad storm Bella came through. HNY to everyone, stay safe.
