Region 3 Net.
Section under development.
To move to a net archive page, use the list boxes in the upper-right corner. Select year, net and click on the "Go" button.
NB: Pre-2012 net data are not processed. The Region 3 Net started on February 5, 2017 and ended in 2020.
The following graph and tables provide an overview of the variations in the level of activity for this net and give a general idea of the HF conditions met during the sessions.
-
QNI Graph.
In each month column of this bar graph, the number of participants, Net Control Station (NCS) and participating stations (QNI's), is shown:
- Per week: first week at bottom of column up to fourth/fifth week of the month;
- Per month: red on white background on top of column.
The bottom row in the table shows:
- Total number of sessions;
- Total number of participants;
- Average number of participants per session.
Click on a month name at the top of the graph to jump to the "QNI table" listing all participants per session.
-
QNI Table.
This table lists all net participants per month, week and session. NCS's are marked with "*". "Visitors" are not listed unless they took part in a session. Click on a day date in red to jump to the corresponding report table(s) if available.
-
Report Tables.
These tables compile reception reports received from net participants or listeners (SWL's). NCS's are marked with "*". Each row of a table recapitulates the reports given to the participants by the station listed in the "De" column. Call signs in italics on a different background color in "De" columns indicate reception reports. Reports expressed in decibels, +10dB for instance, must be understood as values over S9.

Report Tables.
Sunday, January 7, 2018.
20 m: 0859 - 0916 UTC, 14349 kHz.
Notes:
- De JL1MUT: VK7CW, Steve San checked out at 0916 UTC. 0916 - 0922 UTC 14349 kHz; 0925 - 0936 UTC 10149 kHz; 0937 - 0945 UTC 14349 kHz: No reply for CQ. I was hoping LP EU/AF. But it might be too late or poor band conditions.
- De VK7CW: Nil other stations were heard despite Yo San and I calling CQ. I checked out of the net early at 0916 UTC due to participating in SKCC K3Y event.
De | Station | Conditions | JL1MUT* | VK7CW |
JL1MUT* | 100W/3 el. monoband Yagi | - | / | 569 |
VK7CW | 100W/Hex beam | Good between JA and VK, slight SSB QRM | 569 | / |

Sunday, January 14, 2018.
20 m: 0857 - 0931 UTC, 14349 kHz.
Notes:
- De VK7CW: Good conditions on 20m between JA and VK. There was some initial radar intermittently on frequency but we could both work through it. It did not last long (...) Band was very quiet apart from initial radar QRM with good conditions. Nil other stations were heard despite Yo San and I calling CQ.
De | Station | Conditions | JL1MUT* | VK7CW |
JL1MUT* | 100W/3 el. monoband Yagi | Excellent | / | 579 |
VK7CW | 100W/Hex beam | Good, radar QRM | 599 | / |
30 m: 0931 - 0945 UTC, 10149 kHz.
Notes:
- De JL1MUT: The radar QRM was heard on 30m at the beginning but it was gone soon. No other station than VK7CW, Steve San checked in but we enjoyed chat putting out CQ several times.
- De VK7CW: Once again nil other stations heard despite Yo San and I calling CQ. It would be nice if we could encourage more stations to participate in the Region 3 SSN.
- De F5LAW: Heard sideswiper signals, RST 219, a letter now and then but no call signs copied. Heavy bursts of digital transmissions at times. My G5RV is poor on 30m.
De | Station | Conditions | JL1MUT* | VK7CW |
JL1MUT* | 100W/Rotary dipole | Excellent, radar QRM | / | 569 |
VK7CW | 100W/GP | Good, band very quiet, no QRM/QRN | 579 | / |

20 m: 0902 - 0928 UTC, 14055 kHz.
Notes:
- De JL1MUT: We run the new frequencies, 14055.0 and 10121.5 kHz. They were clear, no QRM (...) I heard the station sending ? ? to ask about our callsigns after Steve San checked out at 0955 UTC. Immediately I put out CQ but until 1005 UTC but no reply was heard. Someone was listening our QSO. I hope that he is interested in our net.
- De VK7CW: Our new freq of 14.055 was very successful and clear. Even though there was a contest in progress we experienced no QRM or QRN. However despite Yo San and I calling CQ several times nil other stations were heard.
De | Station | Conditions | JL1MUT* | VK7CW |
JL1MUT* | 100W/3 el. monoband Yagi | QRG clear, no QRM | / | 579 |
VK7CW | 100W/Hex beam | Good between JA and VK | 599 | / |
30 m: 0929 - 0955 UTC, 10121.5 kHz.
Notes:
- De VK7CW: The band was a bit noisy but Yo San was 599 so no problem. Once again our new freq of 10121.5 proved to be clear of QRM. Despite Yo San and I calling CQ once again nil other stations were heard.
- De F5LAW: RX only, clearly copied both call signs, parts of messages, both signals of same strength.
- De ON4ADI: Could only listen from 09.55 to 10.00 UTC and could hear some station calling CQ SSN and I think it was YO SAN de JL1MUT.
De | Station | Conditions | JL1MUT* | VK7CW |
JL1MUT* | 100W/Rotary dipole | QRG clear, no QRM | / | 579 |
VK7CW | 100W/GP | Good between JA and VK | 599 | / |

20 m: 0857 - 0941 UTC, 14055 kHz.
Notes:
- De JL1MUT: Steve San, VK7CW informed Pat San of SSN last Friday. We had 3 stations on the net. So the net became a real net. Pat San tried to use 20m yagi heading to JA in the middle of the net. It was no problem to communicate with VK7CW, Steve San.
- De VK7CW: A big welcome to VK2IOW Pat, for joining us tonight on the net with his homebrew steel ruler cootie. Great to have you on the SSN Pat and the cootie sounded great! 599 on your Yagi and Inverted vee, great signals on both.
- De ON4ADI and F5LAW: Nothing heard on either band.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: Everyone could copy all the participant with solid signals. I have never seen such a wonderful band conditions on SSN Region 3. I had a great time. VK4BGR checked out just before QSY to 30m for the dinner.
- De VK7CW: Nice to have George check in on 20m and very nice to meet him for the 1st time.
- De F5LAW: Can't rotate the beam so receiving from the sides of the antenna, about same signal strengths on G5RV but better S/N ratio on beam.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: Yann San replied to VK7CW, Steve San's CQ SSN. I didn't hear Yann San but Steve San relayed the messages for Yann San and me. Just before Yann San checked in, Steve San had a reply from G3 station but didn't copy the callsign.
- De VK7CW: We also had a surprise check in, F5LAW Yann. It was very nice to have him check into the Region 3 SSN on 30m. Also when I called CQ I did hear a very weak signal from a G3 but sadly I could not get his call and I did not hear him again. Unfortunately Yann and Yo San could not hear each other so I had to relay.
- De F5LAW: Thanks Steve for QSPs to/from NCS. I couldn't hear the G3 station calling the net, skip too long, also very faint signals from ON4ADI - Paul.

Sunday, February 25, 2018.
20 m: 0857 - 0954 UTC, 14055 kHz.
Notes:
- De JL1MUT: VK7CW, Steve San was using his new key, KDM-2. His keying was so beautiful as usual. It worked well. VK2IOW, Pat San couldn't use his 20m beam because of the windy WX. But his signals were solid with his inverted Vee antenna and 50w output power. 0935 UTC: VK2IOW QSPed call de G4FAD. I increased the output power to 200w for G4FAD. Rich San replied to my CQ. I managed to copy his callsign but hardly copied the details for the weak signals. My 20m beam was heading to LP EU during the net at all the time. Rich San checked in SSN Region 3 three times last February and March. The propagation to England may be good at this time. Hopefully we hear him again next week.
- De VK7CW: Pat was initially 559 on 20m but his signal degraded significantly during the net; heavy QSB and was down to 219 by the end of the 20m net. Rich was 319 with me on the short path, however when I called him there was no reply. So I presume that unfortunately he was not hearing my call.
- De G4FAD: I first heard VK2IOW at 339, but Pat you soon dropped below readability. Then Yo JL1MUT also 339 solid copy all the way. Steve VK7CW nothing heard this time sorry.
- De ON4ADI: Nothing heard on either band.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: G4FAD, Rich San checked in 20m net again at 0922 UTC. His signals were better than last week and RST 449 on peak but it was going down soon. My 20m beam was heading to LP EU during 20m net. The opening time to England may be very short.
- De VK7CW: Conditions between VK fair and when Pat tested beaming different directions his signal dropped to 319 with a bad echo and once again got progressively worse to 219 towards the end of the net even when beaming towards VK7. I could only just tell that Rich was there on the long path with weak CW heard, but nil copy.
- De G4FAD: JL1MUT, was a good signal today inasmuch as he was solid copy at 449/559, I could hear Pat VK2IOW but no copy, Steve VK7CW nothing at all again Steve sorry.

- De JL1MUT: We heard DU1NA was checking in the net but didn't hear his reply.
- De VK7CW: DU1NA initially checked into the net but was not heard again by Yo San or my self? Nil other stations heard despite Yo San and I calling CQ.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: There were SSB QRM on 10121.5 kHz during the 30m net. I think that they were pirate radio stations. It was no problem to copy VK7CW, Steve San as his signals were strong.
- De VK7CW: The band was very noisy with SSB QRM and some QRN with a slight tone just above our freq. Noise was no problem as Yo San was easy copy with great signal. When I was calling CQ I heard a very weak station come back to me but it was too weak to copy. Nil other stations heard despite Yo San and I calling CQ.
- De F5LAW: Didn't try 20m; just RX on 30m.

- De VK7CW: Welcome to Alan VK4AAN on the 30m net. Your 20w and G5RV doing a great job, well done. Once again we had some SSB QRM but no problem to copy Yo San or Alan. Just a reminder that daylight savings in South East VK finishes next Sunday morning, which means the clock goes back one hour and net will start at 1900 hrs local time.
- De K7VNE: Steve - VK7CW, I did copy you on 10.1215 at about 10:15 UTC. I got your callsign and tried to call in but looks like I was not heard. As a new member to SSN who has only been on CW about 3 weeks now with a whopping 40 or so QSO's under my belt hi hi.

W1YL/7, QNI 1008Z, Ellen San was so loud as usual. The propagation to North America may be good at around 0930 UTC on 30m and especially in VK. JS6TMW, QNI 1019Z, Steve San seemed to be testing his MLA and it was working well.
- De VK7CW: Very nice to have Vince check into the net this evening and a very nice signal to boot. Vince had some QRN his end and checked out of the net early (...) As we were closing the net we also had W1YL/7, Ellen, and JS6TMW, Steve, call in. It was very nice for Yo San and I to have a quick QSO/chat with Ellen. Yo San had quick QSO with Steve and I tried to call him when they finished but nil reply (...) Some SSB QRM, very light to start with, louder at end, not causing any great problem.

- De VK7CW: Nice to have Vince check into the net again this evening and a very nice signal again but he had bad QRN at his QTH. Also a very warm welcome to G4BUE, Chris, and thanks for checking in. Very difficult copy this end but glad you could copy me at 559. I did not hear the usual SSB QRM that we have been experiencing the last few weeks on 30m which is good news.
- De K7VNE: I was able to QSO with Steve enough to get a signal report @ 09:46 - 10.1215 but band condx became very poor in short order due to heavy QRN. I thought I may have also heard JL1MUT in there but very weak.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: We had a great net because VK6RR, Roy San and VK5EEE, Lou San checked in after a long time.
- De VK7CW: Good conditions initially between JA and VK on 20m this evening, however signals went down progressively during the net and Yo San was 219 with QSB at the conclusion. Unfortunately inter VK was poor and nil heard from Roy, VK6RR.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: There was much SSB QRM on 10121.5 kHz. We had to move up 1 kHz at 1016 UTC.
- De VK7CW: Conditions good on 30m between JA and VK but inter VK poor with nothing heard from Lou VK5EEE. I heard Vince K7VNE calling several times and he was 559 with me, unfortunately he was calling every time that Yo San was TXing. I did call Vince several times but with no replies. Unfortunately Vince and Yo San were not hearing each other and kept on doubling with each other. Good to see Lou back on the 30m SSN after a long absence. There was very light SSB QRM again this week which I think was bad with Yo San towards the end of the net as we had to QSY up 1.
- De K7VNE: The only station I could copy but was still very faint was Steve and even his sig went from bad to worse after I sent him the 229.

- De VK7CW:
* 0900 UTC 20m 14.055 running 100w into Hex Beam with Russian KDM-2 Sideswiper:
Called CQ from 0900 - 0930 UTC. Nil stations heard despite beaming North, then North West and then North East.
* 0930 UTC 10.1215 running 100w into GP:
Called CQ from 0930 - 0940 UTC. Nil stations heard. Experienced slight SSB QRM as usual.
I am not sure if conditions were bad this evening or there was just no one around (maybe both?). I certainly hope for better conditions next week and to have some stations checking in. Looking forward to having Yo San back as NCS next week.

RX summary, using G5RV antenna:

NIL from VK7CW, no SSN stations heard. QRM from EU stations on both QRGs.
Thanks Steve, no reward for your efforts. Sorry. Better luck next time.

VK5EEE, Lou San was not solid. 0908 - 0914 UTC: BX2AFR going down 439 soon. The QSO was done very shortly. 0915 - 0923 UTC: VK5EEE. Afterwards I put out short CQ SSN twice until at 0924 UTC.
0930 - 0940 UTC, 10121.0 kHz, 100w + inverted Vee dipole: Nothing copied for my CQ. I heard a very faint signal at 0935 UTC. I put out QRZ? for it. Nothing was copied. I didn't hear VK5EEE, Lou San calling me on 30m.
- De F5LAW: 20m: All stations good signals via 9V1RM webSDR but unstable conditions, bad fast/deep QSB.
30m: QSX via ZMH292 webSDR. QSB, heavy QRN. JL1MUT calling CQ SSN, weak signal, rough copy. VK5EEE booming in, calling NCS but unheard.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: I was afraid of contest QRM. But it was not much. We could run the nets. We moved up 300Hz because of carriers QRM at my QTH in the middle of the net. BX6ABC, Henry San checked in at 0919 UTC. We haven't heard him for a while. It was wonderful to have him in the net tonight. I could copy him at RST449 but couldn't receive his reply because he was going to QRT soon. Hopefully next time. VK5EEE, Lou San was 9 for the tone of his signals on my RX.
- De F5LAW: QSX via ZMH292 webSDR. Contest QRM but fine copy most of time. JL1MUT and BX6ABC, both good signals with QSB. VK5EEE excellent, solid copy all the way.

Notes:
- De JL1MUT: The band conditions were too poor on both bands. It was very difficult to hold the nets. It was very nice to have BX6ABC, Henry San in the net. He responded to my QRL? before putting out CQ. HI! The signals were very weak on both bands. Sometimes it was going up to the readability 3 to 4 and sometimes down to 2. It was very faint.
- De F5LAW: QSX via 9V1RM webSDR. All signals weak with bad QSB. Switched to ZMH292 webSDR, fine copy on VK5EEE but no improvement on the other stations.
