US 40 m (80/30 m) Net.
Section under development.
To move to a net archive page, use the list boxes in the upper-right corner. Select year, net and click on the "Go" button.
NB: Pre-2012 net data are not processed. The Region 3 Net started on February 5, 2017 and ended in 2020.
The following graph and tables provide an overview of the variations in the level of activity for this net and give a general idea of the HF conditions met during the sessions.
-
QNI Graph.
In each month column of this bar graph, the number of participants, Net Control Station (NCS) and participating stations (QNI's), is shown:
- Per week: first week at bottom of column up to fourth/fifth week of the month;
- Per month: red on white background on top of column.
The bottom row in the table shows:
- Total number of sessions;
- Total number of participants;
- Average number of participants per session.
Click on a month name at the top of the graph to jump to the "QNI table" listing all participants per session.
-
QNI Table.
This table lists all net participants per month, week and session. NCS's are marked with "*". "Visitors" are not listed unless they took part in a session. Click on a day date in red to jump to the corresponding report table(s) if available.
-
Report Tables.
These tables compile reception reports received from net participants or listeners (SWL's). NCS's are marked with "*". Each row of a table recapitulates the reports given to the participants by the station listed in the "De" column. Call signs in italics on a different background color in "De" columns indicate reception reports. Reports expressed in decibels, +10dB for instance, must be understood as values over S9.

40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0130 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: Welcome to the net, Bill. Jay still on his boat, in dock. Conditions on both bands seemed extremely poor tonight. Thanks everyone for coming up, and I look forward to working you all again on the net. Conditions have to improve!
- De KT5LA: ATAS antenna mounted to the sternrail of my 35' sailboat, at the dock in CA.
- De W1SFR: Very faint sigs tonight on the net Darrel. 119 with hvy QRN. Not enough there to copy. I'll try again next week.
- De KA5TJS: Unavailable.

40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0120 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: 95 watts at first, then QRO to kW on both bands. Very poor conditions - the worst I can remember on 40m. QSY early to 80m.
- De W1SFR: 40 was terrible here as well. Most signals in the mud but several years of QRP ops certainly does help when the S meter shows nothing and you can still get some useful copy. HiHi.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 80m very much better than 40m, although still not great. Thanks everyone for coming up and persevering in such bad conditions.
- De KA5TJS: 80 was still very QSB but Darrel and Don were solid. Winter and 80 will win every time I think HI HI.
- De W1SFR: 80 much better for me here in VT although we were in the middle of a snow storm. 8" and now 10 deg F here.

I checked RBN immediately after the net. During the net I had received 38 reports on 40m, and 20 RBN reports on 80m. Conditions were good.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: I heard Cliff working Steve just as we QSY to 30m. Sorry, Cliff that I didn't catch your call earlier. From email after the net, Jay had been trying to call in, but there was a problem with a stuck key or something, and I only heard an unkeyed carrier every time. RST 089. I hope it's not too hard to find the problem.
- De WA4FAT: So happy to make the Net for a change after a summer filled with activities that mitigate against it. Perhaps one day I'll configure something that will put me on 30 or 80 Meters, but for now it's 40 only.
- De KT5LA: On my FT991, I heard CW, but the power meter reacted differently. When you indicated you heard just carrier, I thought my power out meter sort of looks like that, not CW, though I'm hearing CW sidetone... Seems I got some checking to do here.

- De AA7FV: From Arizona, this was a perfect net, with great conditions to Brian and Jay. I enjoyed the chats very much.
- De KT5LA: KF6C was not heard here until at the very end of the 40 meter net when he was suddenly 549, good copy! And as I told Darrel, the issue last week was with a bad key cable plug. Little things are easy fixes (just think of all problems as little and it makes life easier).

- De AA7FV: W8WEU also tried to call in, but none of us could copy him. Nevertheless, just after QNF on 40m and QSY to 30m, K9TJL was able to work W8WEU on 40m. For Arizona, signals were about equally readable on 40m and 30m, in spite of very high QRN on 40m.
Right after the SSN, at 0056 UTC, I turned on my 1-watt WSPR TX. I immediately received WSPR reports from OE9GHV, SM0EPX and DK6UG, So, I guess 40m was supporting long skip to Arizona at this time.

Notes:
- De KA5TJS: QSB was very bad but managed to copy almost all here. Brian, you had a great signal here in ETX last night. N4NN was also hitting 599. To the east signals were good. Steve you were actually stronger on 40 last night than 30! Very strange. Such is propagation I guess.
- De W1SFR: Brian had a very good signal here in VT, but QSB and QRN and all the other nasty Q's were busy tonight.
- De KF6C: It was hard to copy any one. A strong electrical storm over head: QRN, noise from rain falling, and some QRM. This station was set up to be unattended in this area with regular electrical storms. A 300 ft tower about 300 ft away also probably give me a false sense of security. I chickened out at using head phones which meant the radio ws competing with the rain. I thought it only rained this hard in CA.

- De WA4FAT: Enjoyed the SSN tonight! When the Net finished on 40 to QSY to 30, a late check-in, Alan, K5AB, 579. Nice to meet him. Been missing my friend Allen, KA5TJS. Glad to see his QNI on 30.

- De KA5TJS: QSB was bad on both bands tonight. The afterburner sure helped with your signal Darrel!

- De AA7FV: 95 watts at first, then QRO to kW. Immediately after QNF, the following late check-ins: KB3VQU, VA3SZ, KY9I. KY9I, Jay in KY, running QRP. Although all stations on both bands were putting reasonable signals into Arizona, unfortunately most stations were not able to copy each other. Thanks everyone for a great net, in spite of mediocre conditions.
- De K9TJL: AA7FV 589. WITH AMP 599 Plus 10 dB. Shifting band cndx tonight. (Poor cpi most stations).

Notes:
- De KA5TJS: Very poor conditions here tonight. W5UX was good copy at first then the band changed. I did manage to pull KT5LA out of the noise but very poor copy. Steve was way down in the noise.
- De KT5LA: Thanks for your listening efforts Allen. I was surprised you heard me. I was operating at my home station using a buddypole portable antenna. After the net I had a CW QSO with a station in Maine, but we were both battling noise for that also.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 0105 UTC, 7044 kHz. Net was already doing quite nicely here, in the absence of NCS on any nearby frequency. Thanks, everyone, and apologies from NCS for his late arrival on the right frequency.
- De N4OW: Very good net tonight, much better than last week. Many good sigs with easy copy.
- De WA4FAT: So pleased to be able to QNI after a month-long absence. KA5TJS - Heard just prior to Net, 579. N4NN - Allen told me he was reading the mail but the speeds were just a tad fast for him to join in.

40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0125 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De KA5TJS: We got run off of 40 meters. Someone started sending on the freq. and I called for an up 1 and some stations heard me. We later tried to go back to 44 and the QRM started again and I called for the QSY to 80 meters. That worked fairly well.
- De N4OW: 40 meter net - Signals were strong and the net was going well until we experienced loud, prolonged QRM from a rude station tuning up on 7.044 with out any effort to listen or send QRL?
- De NI4E: Great to hear everyone this eve... Great sigs on both bands, even with the QRM on 40m…. Operating from High Point NC this eve...
- De K9TJL: Total confusion on 7044 due to inexperience. I stayed around 7044 and tried to communicate with op. however he could not send code, still could not copy his call. Product of no CW requirement for todays licenses. Keyer stuck several minutes etc.. QRM net 20 minutes. Should of net shifted and not come back to original QRG, he started in on hand key still could not understand. He was using a reader thus not able to copy swiper.
- De NA5ET: Unable to participate in 40 meter net due to tasking from higher authority to execute holiday lighting patrol duties.

- De NI4E: Was great to hear Frank, KA8SYV. We’re old friends, but he didn’t tell me that he planned to check into the net. Was a great surprise! I'll encourage him to keep checking in to SSN...
- De N4OW: Excellent copy on all stations some QSB at times. Welcome to Frank KA8SYV with his new N1DJW key sounding very good. Enjoyable session with no QRM.
- De NA5ET: A bit of QRN here and there, but overall very nice conditions here and it was nice to hear everyone.
