Net Archives 2020.
US 40 m (80/30 m) Net.
Section under development.
To move to a net archive page, use the list boxes in the upper-right corner. Select year, net and click on the "Go" button.
NB: Pre-2012 net data are not processed. The Region 3 Net started on February 5, 2017 and ended in 2020.
The following graph and tables provide an overview of the variations in the level of activity for this net and give a general idea of the HF conditions met during the sessions.
-
QNI Graph.
In each month column of this bar graph, the number of participants, Net Control Station (NCS) and participating stations (QNI's), is shown:
- Per week: first week at bottom of column up to fourth/fifth week of the month;
- Per month: red on white background on top of column.
The bottom row in the table shows:
- Total number of sessions;
- Total number of participants;
- Average number of participants per session.
Click on a month name at the top of the graph to jump to the "QNI table" listing all participants per session.
-
QNI Table.
This table lists all net participants per month, week and session. NCS's are marked with "*". "Visitors" are not listed unless they took part in a session. Click on a day date in red to jump to the corresponding report table(s) if available.
-
Report Tables.
These tables compile reception reports received from net participants or listeners (SWL's). NCS's are marked with "*". Each row of a table recapitulates the reports given to the participants by the station listed in the "De" column. Call signs in italics on a different background color in "De" columns indicate reception reports. Reports expressed in decibels, +10dB for instance, must be understood as values over S9.

Report Tables.
Thursday, January 2, 2020.
40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0130 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: Started at 95 watts, then QRO to kW after QRM came up on frequency. Conditions were fairly good, although not perfect, on both bands. A good first net of the year. Thanks for coming up on the net everyone, and looking forward to many more QSOs in the coming year.
- De KT5LA: A pleasure to join you for the first SSN Net of 2020. QSO with AA7FV before the net amidst a lot of local noise, chatting about his WSPR efforts using the rhombic. I put my end fed wire back up today, which is a noisier receive antenna than my vertical. Goals for 2020 include improving my receive antenna (planning a separate loop receive antenna). Happy New Year Sideswiper fans.
- De N4OW: 40 meters intentional QRM again for short time. Thanks to W1SFR for 2x QRP contact after QNF. Happy New Year to all!

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 95 watts on both bands tonight.
- De N4OW: Using my new N1DWJ sideswiper acquired on Ebay. Very smooth key that is very well made by a retired machinist at a reasonable price :).

- De AA7FV: A great net tonight. To Arizona, all signals were great copy on both bands. A little data QRM on 80m, but we could work around that. Thanks everyone. If only conditions could always be as good as tonight.
- De K9TJL: Data xmsn QRM. Ops do not monitor QRG. They just pound out the packets.

Thursday, January 16, 2020.
40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0125 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De KA5TJS: Very poor signals here in the Piney Woods tonight. I thought there was another stations in there but could not pull out a call.
- De W1SFR: Total crapola here on both bands, barely moving the S meter on my 7300. Heavy QRN and deep QSB. This is getting pretty annoying. I got spoiled coming in at the peak cycle in 2012 when I got my ticket and easily working WAS QRP and QRPp ;-). Well, hopefully I'll live long enough to do it again eh?
- De K9TJL: NIL.
- De AA7FV: Unavailable.

Thursday, January 23, 2020.
40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0120 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: 95 watts at first, QRO to kW later. Band folded quite dramatically at 0115 UTC. So, we QSY early to 80m.
- De WA4FAT: So pleased to be able to join the SSN after a rather prolonged absence... The venerable aging oak which supports the center of my 40 M dipole has been selected for removal by our Condo Association, so I'm afraid I'm off the air until I can finagle another solution. I've been blessed to have an outside antenna these past 30 years while living in a Condo community and am confident some other option will present itself.
- De N4OW: Unable to copy the 40 meter net this evening, due to heavy Plasma Screen TV RFI. 7044 appears to be a center frequency for this broadband shifting signal.

- De KA5TJS: Darrel was booming in but other stations still poor here on 80.
- De N4OW: 80 band noise was throbbing up and down. Sound unstable. Happy to check in on 80.

40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0130 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De AA7FV: Signals from Steve in VT were down, but all other stations were great signals into AZ. I think conditions on both bands were the best they've been for a long time. A great net.
- De WB8APR: Good cpy mostly on all except Steve W1SFR was way out there on the east coast with a RST of 239. Good to be back on.
- De N4OW: Excellent participation on both nets with good copy on all stations.
- De KA5TJS: The band was long here and could not copy AL or TX.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: 7044.25 kHz. (Another QSO already in progress on 7044.0 kHz). At 0129 UTC, QSY to 80m. A good net.
- De K7FD: Everyone Q5 in Oregon on 7044, some stronger than others. Had to duck out after first round for a phone call...
- De KT5LA: On 40 meters tonight I heard almost everyone, and that’s a good net for me here in the Los Angeles noise. I spent most of “Saturday” improving my station ground and adding a 1:1 balun to my end fed wire. I had been using the “balun” (a voltage balun, I’m told) in my auto tuner. The eternal 1:1 made tuning the wire better for 40 (I had been having issues on that band). I value the net for being able to check things out and am pleased that whatever I did helped improve my “ears”, on 40 meters at least.
- De NA5ET: Pretty ruff conditions here on 40m and just a tad better on 80m. Been so darned wet here all week, I am wondering if and how much that may be affecting my antennas. Very Heavy QRN/QSB on 40m... Eventually lost all stations at approx. 01:12 UTC.
- De WA4FAT: SWL report. I listened in but reception here in Alabama was about like Allen's in Texas ... Mostly slim to none. So I was there in spirit if not in RF :-).

- De KT5LA: Operating on battery power tonight just for fun and to make sure the “emergency supply” works. I used the battery bank I normally have in the car to power the mobile station. It’s packed in a tackle box and is charged when the car runs. It’s nice and portable too.
- De KA5TJS: Signals started out good on 40 and as the net progressed they steadily got worse. I did hear Jay in CA. pretty well tonight which is unusual.
- De WA4FAT: What a joy to hear Net Control booming in tonight on 40 after several weeks of dismal propagation between Alabama and Arizona. Great participation in the SSN this session too - wonderful to know all my SSN friends are still alive and swiping. KO1E 339 to start but didn't return.

40 m: Friday, 0000 - 0024 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De W1SFR: There was another call in there but i lost it to QRN/QSB. K6GVG QSP via Bill. Thanks! Niece, I did hear you and copied the KA1ULN and called 3 times but Nil on this end... Sorry.
- De NA5ET: Rough going on 40m tonight. Despite some relatively strong sigs, QRN, QRM, and QSB converged for the perfect storm. Several stations could not hear each other and were doubling, adding to the difficulties. A tip of the hat to NCS (Steve, W1SFR) for making sense of it. I think one or two others called, but were obscured by doubling... didn't get the call signs.
- De WA4FAT: KA1ULN heard fleetingly.
- De K6GVG: Thanks all for even hearing me! At 5:00 PM local (PDT), 40 m is still quite noisy and all signals were 339 at best. Plus, using a Hustler mobile antenna on a condo balcony (facing west no less) is also not optimum. So, I much appreciate the QSPs and reports.
- De KA1ULN: I Niece-KA1ULN was there BBUT.. did not hear anyone come back. I thought the net was over. Oh well see ya next time.

Notes:
- De AA7FV: Started with 95 watts, but conditions were not great so later QRO to kW. Active 4-ft vertical for receive on 40m. I had heavy QRN on 40m from local storms, but using my 4-ft active vertical on receive helped a lot. I'm guessing the QRN may have been strongly horizontally polarized. It didn't help so much on 30m.
- De WA4FAT: Conditions from Alabama were noisy but I could hear every station that joined in.
- De KA5TJS: QRN/QSB was pretty rough but has a copy on all at one time or another.

- De AA7FV: Thanks Arnie, NA5ET for the email and for calling in, but very sorry I didn't copy you.
- De KA5TJS: The QRN was pretty bad here making copy marginal. The band was getting better as it got later.
- De NA5ET: Unable to check into SSN on 40m this eve. Copied AA7FV calling the net & responding (559 w/QRN & QSB) to a few stations, but NCS could not hear my station and I could not hear the others (so, apologies to anyone I may have doubled). Just put up a new 134' EFHW which works quite well, and I had hoped it would help on the net--but not this evening. Tried the G5RV Jr. also, but results the same.

- De WA4FAT: Hats off to Steve, W1SFR, for a great job as NCS! 40M was noisy as usual but signals were surprisingly strong (with the exception of Steve :-)
- De KA5TJS: Very noisy here tonight made anything under 569 tough copy. Guy calling CQ on 7.044 tonight but found you guys a little up the band.

- De NA5ET: Heard W1SFR calling with RST 579 on 30 meters and tried to join the net, but my dog informed me that he had a preemptive need for my attention. Oh well, the price we pay for unconditional love I guess.
- De KA5TJS: Signal levels about the same but QRN much lower. Solid copy on Steve up here. Pulled Roy and Niece out fairly well tonight. Going coast to coast and top to bottom of the country I think we are doing pretty well HI HI.
- De K6GVG: I couldn't hear any SSN folks on 40, and really only Allen on 30, though Steve was -229 on that band. But then using a Hustler mobile antenna on my balcony railing doesn't enhance reception.

- De KA5TJS: Well I was on the back porch reading a book and looked at my watch and saw it was 7:15 and thought OH S^*T, it's Thursday! I got fired up just as you cleared the 40 meter band so just went up to 30. I called Dave K7TRT after the net and he told me this was his first time to use a cootie! He was doing great for the first QSO. He had the best signal I could hear last night at 579 with very little QSB from MT.
- De W1SFR: So great to hear you Dave! Your signal was weak in VT but I got most of your copy. I was a little concerned that we might have been sending a bit to fast for you to copy. I hope that wasn't the case, but your copy was excellent so good job with the cootie!!
- De K6GVG: Unfortunately, my 30-m signal, using a Hustler mobile antenna clamped to a balcony railing, was heard by nobody! At the end of the session, I did hear Allen and Bill ~52/39. Also heard Dave, K7TRT (559/579 from Billings, MT) in a long QSO with Allen. Tried to break, but to no avail. But will give it another go next Thursday. - De KA5TJS: QSB was bad! Thanks to Steve for the QSP help.
- De WA4FAT: Sorry I wasn't able to help, Allen. QSB was almost like flipping a switch - here one minute and gone the next.
The propagation gods must have been having a great laugh at our expense.
- De N2KOF: Pretty ruff here in northwest CT. See you next week.
- De WB8APR: Hi Bill, I was surprised you had me listed. I made one brief attempt and it was so noisy over here I just gave up. I only heard you and even that was just near the noise level of s5.
- De AA7FV: I was very late, and just caught the tail end of the net. Didn't call on 40m. Receive only reports.

- De K6GVG: Thanks Steve for your report and your patience in dredging up my signals emanating from Hustler 40- and 30-m mobile antennas, respectively. These are mounted on a condo balcony, and facing the ocean (west) no less! Also appreciate Darrel (AA7FV) for the 40-m QSP; and others who may have heard me calling on 30 m. - De WA4FAT: Nothing but the sound of ocean waves breaking against some distant shore :-).
- De K9TJL: I was absent from both sessions, however I assumed the 2nd session would be on 80 meters. I was setting on 3568Khz and Cliff K3CRM showed up on QRG. We had good QSO, so all was not lost. 80 was in pretty good shape so I camped out there for a QSO.

- De WA4FAT: ... I called the Net at our former 0000Z time: VE1YVN Sam in Halifax, NS checked in using a bug 579 (and was welcomed to join us again). 40 Meters was apparently very long tonight ... rough conditions from Alabama. Thanks to all for participating and to AA7FV for his heroic QSPs on a very poor 40 Meter band!
- De AA7FV: Signals were coming into AZ well, although very deep QSB on most stations. It often helped me copy by switching to the 4-ft vertical on receive.
- De W1SFR: Worst ever for me... well maybe not ever, but pretty crummy.
