Net Archives 2021.
US 40 m (80/30 m) Net.
Section under development.
To move to a net archive page, use the list boxes in the upper-right corner. Select year, net and click on the "Go" button.
NB: Pre-2012 net data are not processed. The Region 3 Net started on February 5, 2017 and ended in 2020.
The following graph and tables provide an overview of the variations in the level of activity for this net and give a general idea of the HF conditions met during the sessions.
-
QNI Graph.
In each month column of this bar graph, the number of participants, Net Control Station (NCS) and participating stations (QNI's), is shown:
- Per week: first week at bottom of column up to fourth/fifth week of the month;
- Per month: red on white background on top of column.
The bottom row in the table shows:
- Total number of sessions;
- Total number of participants;
- Average number of participants per session.
Click on a month name at the top of the graph to jump to the "QNI table" listing all participants per session.
-
QNI Table.
This table lists all net participants per month, week and session. NCS's are marked with "*". "Visitors" are not listed unless they took part in a session. Click on a day date in red to jump to the corresponding report table(s) if available.
-
Report Tables.
These tables compile reception reports received from net participants or listeners (SWL's). NCS's are marked with "*". Each row of a table recapitulates the reports given to the participants by the station listed in the "De" column. Call signs in italics on a different background color in "De" columns indicate reception reports. Reports expressed in decibels, +10dB for instance, must be understood as values over S9.

- De K6GVG: Yes, ugly propagation conditions indeed! I had a fairly low noise level, but all signals were in it! Did hear Bill, WA4FAT, toward the end of the 40 m session, though about 219 at best. Boy, I miss Darrel, AA7FV, for his QSP’s – which I truly need, for I am limited to only to a quasi-stealth, Hustler mobile antenna on a condo balcony, and facing west no less!
- De AA7FV: Sorry I missed the net last night, Roy. I had a Zoom meeting that clashed with the net times, and which went on longer than I'd hoped. Clearly conditions last night were truly awful.

Thursday, July 1, 2021.
40 m: Friday, 0000 - 0024 UTC, 7044.5 kHz.
Notes:
- De W1SFR: Sheesh....started the month off with a whimper tonight. I was surprised a contest was going on. A PR station was sitting on 7044 and wasn't budging. Tried 7046 for a bit and no takers. Dropped down to 7044.5 and heard Bill and TJ, but just barely...both a shaky 339. We made a go of it, but QRM, QSB and QRN all nasty. Bill was able to QSP to TJ for me but sigs not good enough to continue.
- De WA4FAT: Just when you thought conditions couldn't get any worse ... sigh. Significant QRM from a 13 Colony Station almost on top of us. Steve moved up frequency a tad to avoid the mayhem and I was lucky to find him - good job! The 40 M session was adjourned early and we tried 30.
- De AA7FV: Nothing heard of NCS W1SFR.
- De KT5LA: Well, I've started cheating...in a good way. After reading a May 2021 article in QST about software called CATSync, I've stated using SDRs as my receivers for HF. I've mostly been using the KFS SDR in Half Moon Bay, CA. CATSync allows me to use my FT-991 to tune and select mode of the SDR. It's very easy to use and this great receive site has really enhanced my enjoyment of HF here in my very noisy So. CA. location. (...) All transmiting, of course, is done from my home QTH, on an 84' long wire. So take my 599 reports for AA7FV and K6GVG with that caveat. Both great signals, though I joined the net late at 00:15.

Notes:
- De W1SFR: All in all, the worst condx for me as NCS to date. Life in the big city eh?
- De WA4FAT: Steve tried valiantly to hear any other check-ins, but nothing was heard ... until after the net (!). The 30 M session was mercifully ended at about 0035Z. I tried the Northern Utah Web SDR on 40 (where it was no help) and had tuned it to 30M where it also provided no help for Steve ... but moments after QNF, I heard activity loud and clear from the web SDR -- AA7FV and K6GVG, both S9. They were about 559 over the air and I was able to chat with both and learned that Darrel conducted a 'western SSN' on 40, not hearing Steve ... so we had dual sessions of the SSN tonight on both 40 and 30. Now that's the old American spirit if ever there were such a thing! I wonder if this has occurred previously?
- De AA7FV: As Bill explains, we evidently had two parallel nets tonight, East and West, with nothing heard between the nets. QRN was very high in AZ on both bands, but the good signals from the stations listed here overcame the QRN.

I thought it was something in my house and went around turning off fans and air conditioners, but alas, it was mother nature in a foul mood apparently. My apologies to any stations that tried to check in later in the schedule, but with only Roy and Darrel checking in (that I could hear) and only Darrel with marginal copy, we moved to 30 very early.

Roy and I contacted each other a few minutes before the net, and just before the net I was called by K7WDA/0 (he was 579) in CO, operating from an RV. Unfortunately he couldn't be persuaded to stay for the net. Because of the heavy QRN, and that Steve and Roy couldn't hear each other, Steve decided to QSY to 30m early.

- De W1SFR: I could copy Roy and Darrel on 30 with Darrel being a strong 57. Roy started as a 32 but went deeper in the mud almost immediately.
- De AA7FV: Very poor conditions on both bands tonight. Thanks Steve for dealing with such awful conditions.
- De K6GVG: Lightning or no lightning, I could only hear Darrel on both 40 and 30 m. And he was the usual 599 plus. Actually, my local QRN was S1 on 40 and S2 on 30, the reverse of what I would have expected. But then, a Hustler mobile antenna on the "wrong side" of a concrete and steel structure really doesn't hear much at anytime!

- De KT9X: Thanks for letting me check into the SSN tonight! It was fun to hear so many of you this time! On 40 I heard everyone but W1SFR, Steve. I plan to check-in most Thursdays and I'm getting the hang of the net now! Loads of fun to connect with other sideswipers! Thanks for hanging in with me through my nerves!
- De WO6W: I was the fly on the wall. Listening in tonight was my first exposure to a net other than a local VHF net some years back. On 40, Darrel AA7FV was a solid 589 here close to San Francisco… Steve W1SFR deep in the noise. I expect to check in to the SSN in the next week or two! Although it sounded like TX was stopping (it would cut out completely - nothing heard), I found that the RF was really only affecting my sidetone speaker! Nothing wrong with the Flex Radio! - De N2ZUT: I, too, heard W6BZ blasting in right below 7.044 in an extended Rag Chew and he was 599 here in Upstate NY. I kept searching and finally heard Darrel's CQs. He was around 569 with a lot of QSB. I was waiting to hear QNI so I could hear my number. When Darrel invited me to join, I wanted to make sure I followed y'all's procedures. As I learned, after being assigned a number, it's a cool, relaxed format. Sadly, the static was so strong, I was unable to copy much of the other sigs. Toward the end of the half-hour, I did hear Darrel calling me. I was happy to have him at 579 and was able to answer.
- De WA4FAT: Super job as always with Darrel at the NCS position. What a fabulous turnout tonight! Let's hope this is a trend that will continue. Unable to make the 30 M session.
- De K6GVG: Darrell was the usual 599+ then, almost immediately dropped to zero. Checked the entire band, almost dead everywhere! Impact of a solar flare? Then Darrell came up to 59+ and heard just about all signals better than ever on 40. But no luck on the NE stations.
- De KA5TJS: Very poor tonight in some directions for sure. Went to 7.044kc and heard nothing, then heard Roy K6GVG call NIL. He was 589! Responded and got a 589 reports. I tuned around and found the net at 7.044.36kc. Managed to get checked in!

- De AA7FV: My local radio club Zoom meeting started, so I had to leave the net. However, I did still listen, while the radio club folks were still figuring out microphones and computer settings. (CW would have been much easier.)
- De W1SFR: No sigs heard on 30 or 40m.

- De AA7FV: KA5TJS? Not heard. Conditions on 40m were fairly good, but conditions on 80m were the worst I can remember. Great to hear folks on Thanksgiving day, and pity conditions were not better. NCS did a superb job in such awful conditions. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and I look forward to the net next week.

- De WA4FAT: No need for the web SDR tonight! Great signals from all and an excellent Net as usual with Darrel, AA7FV, at the helm. So nice to have Mark, KB5RXL, join us tonight. Please come often! I recorded a portion of tonight's Net for anyone who might enjoy listening in.

40 m: Friday, 0100 - 0130 UTC, 7044 kHz.
Notes:
- De WA4FAT: 40 Meters was going long for most of us at just about Net time, so it made things dicey, but we managed as always. Thanks to AA7FV for his assistance and to everyone for their participation and patience. The SSN rocks!
- De KT5LA: Resorting once again to a remote SDR to join, this time from one in Utah. AA7FV unusually (for me) down in the noise at home at only an S3. K6GVG, KA5TJS: Nil at home.
- De AA7FV: On both Roy and Jay the signals just dropped suddenly by about 40 dB, soon after the net started.
- De W1SFR: I made a failed effort to check in but couldn't hear Bill at all and others were very weak on 40. Couldn't get on 80 cuz I had other stuff to do. Strangely enough, Roy was 55 here above all others. Go figure. Got my antenna up to about 30' but still need to get a line over my 100' tall maple tree to get it up to it's former height.

- De W1SFR: Merry Christmas to all and I hope you all have the best of holidays in these challenging times.
- De WA4FAT: Great sigs from all to start but the band began to change toward the end, as you can hear in the recording I made. Here's to wonderful holidays for you all, my friends. Be well and God Bless!
- De AA7FV: RTTY QRM exactly on frequency towards the end of the 40m net.
- De KT5LA: Listened tonight on the KFS WebSDR , as well as the Northern Utah SDR for a bit. The first RST is what I heard here in Los Angeles, the second what I heard of the SDR. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" (quote from some guy in a red suit...)
- De KA5TJS: All stations had pretty deep QSB and we had a digi dork fire up on us for a while. Merry Christmas and look for all of you next year.
